George Dilboy Oak Tree and Plaque

Details:

Located 50m north of the intersection of the roads Le Village and Les Sables della Charbonni on the left side of the road.  Marker The tree was planted in 2010 to honor Medal of Honor recipient George Dilboy, the first Greek American to win the Medal of Honor. PFC Dilboy's family planted the tree, a Greek oak tree to honor the soldier's heritage. A plaque that invites people to enjoy this peaceful setting accompanies the tree on a black metal enclosure for the tree. The site of the tree marks where PFC Dilboy was killed. 

Monument Text:

PFC George Dilboy, the first Greek-American soldier to win the Medal of Honor, laid down his life near this spot on 18th July 1918. Come, sit beside this oak from his homeland and enjoy the peace we find here today. Please spare a thought for his former comrades and foes who also fell here. Many thanks to the people of Bouresches for making this memorial possible.
