<< Back to Flavigny Bridge

Details:

The plaque is located on the inside of the west wall of the bridge near the north end. Plaque The bronze plaque features embossed text in French and English. There is unit insignia on the plaque, as well as a cross of the same material mounted to the right of the plaque.

Lt. Brennan was killed on the night of 10-11 September 1944 during the Battle of Flavigny and the Moselle river crossing en route to Nancy. The cross was placed at the site in 1946 by members of Brennan's family, though original records were lost. Several years later, citizens of the area were seeking information regarding the cross and learned about the battle which had taken place at the site. They then installed the plaque commemorating Brennan and his fellow soldiers of the 134th Infantry Regiment in 1998, as well as the nearby 35th Infantry Division Memorial.
