In 1918, Allerery was home to a 10,000 bed American hospital, which had a temporary cemetery that contained 460 American tombs, all of which were moved after the war.  The citizens of Allerey constructed a monument there which they later moved to this municipal cemetery honoring Private Paul Burton, who was the first American to be buried in the town.
