291st Combat Engineer

Details:

Located on the southwest side of N66-Rue de Huy at the bridge crossing. Monument is an upright orange stone with a bronze plaque affixed. The flagpole is located on the south side of the stone with the river as a backdrop. Parking area is directly to the west of the monument.   Monument Monument is dedicated to the 261st Combat Engineer Battalion who engaged with a SS Panzer unit on 18 Dec 1944.

Here on 18 Dec 1944 a handful of U.S. fighters from the 291 Battalion of the 1111 Combat Engineer Group victoriously opposed the advancing Armored Vanguard of the 1st Panzer Div.
