LT Robert Jenkins Stele
Details:
On the east side of the road.
A stone stele with plaques commemorating the crash of a P-47D flown by the 56th Fighter Group Robert E. Jenkins. He was confirmed dead by the German senior doctor of the 91st Regiment. He is also remembered on the town war memorial.
Monument Text:
(1st commemoration plaque)
On July 15th 1944 at 7:29 P.M.
Robert E. JENKINS,
a Californian pilot in 63th squadron, 56th fighter group
of the 8th US Air Force. based at Boxted airfield
in South-East England, crashed in his "Thunderbolt"
( P.47 D. model 20 RE. serial number 42 76578 )
in the forest of Blois. near Billeux in Molineuf.
He was confirmed dead by the German senior doctor
of the 91st Regiment and his body was buried in the local cemetery.
Now he lies in the American military section (grave B.22.39)
in
Colleville-Saint-Laurent-sur-
His death certificate was written by the mayor of Molineuf
and his name is inscribed on the War Memorial.

en forêt de Blois, près du Bilieux, à Molineuf.
Décès constaté par le médecin-chef allemand du 91ème régiment,
son corps d'abord enseveli au cimetière communal, repose
dans le carré militaire américain ( tombe B 22.39)

au monument des "Morts pour la France"
