Losheim Gap Monument - 99th Infantry Division

Details:

To the right of a dirt road on the east side of N626, approximately 100 meters southwest of the Losheimergraben roundabout.

Monument

This is a rock monument affixed with a metal plaque. Behind the rock are large hedges that come to a point. It remembers the 394th Infantry Regiment of the 99th Infantry Division which received the Presidential Unit citation for its heroic defense of this gap during the early days of the "Battle of the Bulge" in December 1944.

Monument Text:

Erected in honor of

the 1st Bn, 394th Infantry Regiment

and attached units of the 99th Division,

whose valor and heroic action at this location on

Dec 16, 1944, was recognized by award of the

Presidential Unit Citation.

Errichtet zu Erinnerung an

das 1. Btl. des 394. Infanterie Regimentes

und der ihm zugeordneten Einheiten der 99. US Division.

Für ihre an diesem Ort am 16. Dezember 1944 gezeigte Tapferkeit

und den heroischen Einsatz erhielten sie als Anerkennung
