CenotaphA rectangular black stone marker commemorating Sgt Walter Murphy Sies, flight engineer/ gunner in B-24 "Super Wolf" (42-95080), 791st Bombardment Squadron, 467th Bombardment Group (Heavy). On the return from a mission striking marshaling yards in Osnabrück, Germany, the aircraft was hit by heavy flak and crew bailed out north of Emmen, Netherlands. Sgt Sies was killed when his parachute failed to open, was initially interred in Nieuw Dordrecht General Cemetery, and later re-buried in Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten. Installed in 2017, the marker displays the fallen soldiers name, date of death, age, service units, and unit insignia.
Sgt Walter Sies is also remembered at Sites Valthe and Roswinkel.
