Located in the courtyard next to the church in Krinkelt-Rocherath, on the south side of N658. Monument A large red and black stone monument engraved on both sides front with French, English, Flemish, and German. It was put up to honor the 99th Infantry division who served during WWII.
Monument Text:
(Front) 99th Infantry Division - World War II "Battle Babies" This monument stands in honor of members of the 99th Infantry Division and attached units who gallantly served, and those who died, for freedom and in the name of liberty during World War II in Europe. It's a memorial commemorating their service to mankind.
(Back) 99th Infantry Division, United States of America, [Lists the Division Units and the Attached Units], Major Battles -Battle of the Bulge, Remagen Bridge, Ruhr Pocket, Belgian Fourrageres. 2 Awards. Presidential Unit Citation. 2 Awards. The 99th Infantry Division distinguished itself defending the "North Shoulder" of the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes. It was the first full infantry division to cross the Rhine River at Remagen. It collapsed the Ruhr pocket, captured more than 100,000 prisoners and conquered more than 1,000 square miles of territory before reaching the Austrian border on V-E Day. The division suffered 6,553 casualties with 1,148 members killed in 151 days of combat. There were 254 men listed as missing in action and 5,328 received one or more purple heart awards. This memorial erected by the friends and members of the 99th Infantry Division Association.
